Colorado’s second cannabis-themed license plate auction is underway
Colorado has launched another cannabis-themed license plate auction to aid disabled people across the weed-friendly state.
If last year is anything to go by, the Committee stands to reap some serious rewards. On April 20, 2021, the Colorado Disability Funding Committee‘s auction of stoner plates had accumulated $45,410.
Not only will the auction’s proceeds benefit the Committee but also, they will be used “to fund grants for disability application assistance as well as new and innovative programs increasing quality of life and independence of Coloradans with disabilities”.
“For over a decade, Colorado has been a leader in the cannabis space, bringing bold, innovative and creative businesses to the state. This effort allows us to celebrate Colorado’s mile-high reputation and fund critical projects and programs in our disability community,” said Governor Jared Polis.
What are the appeals of participating in Colorado’s cannabis plate auction?
As if living in one of the most popular cannabis-friendly states wasn’t rad enough, many of Colorado’s residents are also keen on adorning their car with a 420-themed license plate.
People who wish to participate in Colorado’s cannabis plate auction can bid on a wide configuration of sought-after letters and numbers.
This year’s event features 22 unique official state license plate configurations, including cannabis phrases like “420,” “CBD,” “HASH,” “THC,” and “EDIBLE.”
The winners will be able to purchase a novelty plate and hold onto the total rights to apply the configuration to their Colorado-registered license plate at some point in the future.
Additionally, the winners will maintain the rights (should they wish) to resell the configuration through the Colorado Disability Funding Committee at a later point in time.
“The CDFC grant gave Family Voices CO the opportunity to create a pilot serving 12 children experiencing deaf blindness to access their community! This program is the first of its kind in CO, providing Intervener services, outside of the school day,” said the Family Voices CO director Christy Blakely, who was on the receiving end of last year’s grant.
Colorado’s cannabis license plate auction raised more than $45,000 in 2021
According to Lieutenant Governor Dianne Primavera, last year’s cannabis-themed license plate auction raised in excess of $45,000.
This money was used to support Colorado’s disability community — as many as 864,454 Coloradoans are believed to suffer from some type of disability.
Lt. Primavera noted that this is a brilliant opportunity to provide grant funding to “not-for-profit and for-profit organizations that serve people with disabilities.”
Everyone has an equal opportunity to participate in Colorado’s cannabis license plate auction, so long as he/she is willing to pay the necessary registration fees and a customized plate production fee.
An additional fee is required for bidders who request a designer background, as opposed to the typical white and green license plate.
To find out more about Colorado’s cannabis license plate bidding process, contact the state Disability Funding Committee coordinator Josh Winkler on the following number: 303-900-7600.
Bidding can be completed online until April 20, 2022 at 4:20 p.m. Mountain Time.
