Alaska has a record-breaking month in cannabis tax revenue
According to last month’s fiscal report on cannabis sales in Alaska, the state sold more product this month than the three-month average previously set.
In July, Alaska made nearly $600,000 in cannabis tax revenue, which equals to about 33 percent of total revenue brought in last fiscal year.
July’s figures are record-breaking for Alaska’s social cannabis industry, which began sales last year in October. Alaska’s last fiscal year which ended on June 30 saw $1.7 million from the cannabis industry.
The state reported 612 pounds of cannabis and 369 pounds of stems or leaves were sold in July.
Excise tax supervisor Kalley Mazzei expects sales to continue increasing. The state currently collects $50 per ounce of bud and $15 per ounce for trimmings for taxes.
