Kosher cannabis hits Canadian market
A medical cannabis producer in Quebec, Canada, announced its products have been certified as kosher.
The Hydropothecary Corp said the certification arrives just in time for the Jewish holiday Rosh Hashanah, and covers its medical cannabis powder line, peppermint oil and milled products. The certification also included an audit of cleaning protocols, a kosher compliance review and on-site inspections.
The word Kosher describes any food or substance which is prepared and blessed with the requirements of Jewish law in mind. Rabbi Levy Teitlebaum performed the ceremony and said consumers can be assured the products adhere to the highest standards of kosher purity.
The rabbi said medical products are eligible for kosher certification, but social cannabis may not qualify as kosher when it becomes legal in Canada next year.
