This cannabis company wants to sell social cannabis products at convenience stores
A Canadian cannabis company wants to start a strategic alliance with a national chain of convenience stores with the aim of selling adult-use cannabis at the store’s 350 locations across Canada.
Cannabis Wheaton, a cannabis company based in Vancouver, called the alliance the “first of its kind.”
President of Cannabis Wheaton Hugo Alves said he will focus on provinces in Western Canada and Quebec at first, where the government has not shut the door on privately owned retail outlets.
“We will focus efforts on helping the local industry associations have a meaningful voice with government on the advantages of allowing all or some convenience store participation,” he said.
Through the alliance, Cannabis Wheaton would have the exclusive right to work with the convenience store group for 10 years to implement distribution and supply all medical cannabis products to store locations.
However, cannabis cannot be sold at pharmacies in Canada and there are no plans that would allow pharmacies to sell the drug. The only way a customer can legally buy medical cannabis is from one of the 67 companies licensed by Health Canada.
