New Mexicos medical cannabis program is booming - sales soar 86 percent

New Mexico’s Medical Cannabis Program saw an 86 percent increase comparing the first three months of 2016 to the first three months of 2017, according to a press release from one of the state’s medical cannabis providers, Ultra Health.

The state’s program saw revenues reach $19 million, despite New Mexico having the country’s most restrictive plant count, a maximum of 450 plants per producer.

The release also stated that plant count has remained the same during the last two years, while patient numbers have increased by 157 percent from 13,754 to 34,909 patients.

Ultra Health stated that New Mexicans are paying more for their medicine due to these restrictive plant count limitations.

A regional survey of medical cannabis prices showed the price for one ounce of cannabis in Phoenix, Arizona to be as low as $99; Las Vegas, Nevada $99; Denver, Colorado $75; and in Albuquerque, New Mexico $156.
