NV social cannabis sales may not commence next month

Carson City District Judge James Wilson extended a temporary order on Tuesday, preventing the state from issuing cannabis distribution licenses to existing dispensaries so they can commence recreational sales July 1.

He said in an 11-page ruling that the ballot measures Nevada voters approved in November states licensed alcohol wholesalers have exclusive rights to cannabis distribution licenses for 18 months.

Some state regulators say they remain determined to launch the first sales July 1, even though they admitted they aren’t sure how.

The judge said the members of the Independent Alcohol Distributors of Nevada demonstrated they will suffer irreparable harm if he doesn’t block the state from licensing existing cannabis businesses as distributors.
