New Hampshire joins the rest of New England and decriminalizes cannabis
A New Hampshire law which would decriminalize the possession of small amounts of cannabis goes into effect on Saturday.
The law would reduce the possession penalty from a misdemeanor to a civil violation with fines up to $300 for amounts under 21 grams. Police officers cannot arrest someone for a cannabis violation, and any money collected from fines will go toward drug abuse prevention and treatment.
New Hampshire is the 20th state in the country and the last state in New England to ease criminal penalties on cannabis.
