Meet the youngest medical cannabis entrepreneur in Maryland
Formerly an investment banker, pageant queen and star of E! Television reality show, the “Wives and Girlfriends of Atlanta,” Hope Wiseman is making news once again but this time, for her entrepreneurial efforts.
Aged just 25, Wiseman has recently celebrated the launch of a Maryland-based medical cannabis dispensary called “Mary and Main” and according to the young black female, it will not be your average dispensary.
The business is targeted towards patients who may be suffering from treatable illnesses and conditions, such as arthritis, autism and Parkinson’s disease. Patients must acquire a patient card for their diagnosed ailment in order to obtain products from the store.
Who exactly is cannabis entrepreneur Hope Wiseman?
“I did it, you can do it too,” Wiseman tells other budding cannabis entrepreneurs.
A Spellman College graduate who rose to fame for her appearance as the only single friend on the “Wives and Girlfriends of Atlanta,” Wiseman has been stepping up to the mark since she was a teenager. Back in 2009 at the tender age of 17, she walked away from a Miss Teen USA pageant with the “Miss District of Columbia Teen USA” title and crown.
Dubbed the “youngest black dispensary owner in the U.S.,” the African-American business professional grew up in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Mary and Main is not Wiseman’s sole business venture, however. As the founder of Compassionate Herbal Alternative, she has demonstrated more than just a ‘ganjapreneurial’ spirit during her lucrative career.
The Wall Street intern and Falcons cheerleader has always had her eye on the prize, so it seems. When asked about her background during an interview with Estrohaze, Wiseman revealed how her desire to get involved in the cannabis industry stemmed from her involvement in the banking and economics industries.
Soon after medical cannabis was legalized in Maryland, the young entrepreneur sought advice from her mother, Dr. Octavia Simkins-Wiseman, in regards to applying for a dispensary license. Wiseman’s mother was intrigued by the idea and so, set forth to inaugurate Mary and Main with partners Dr. Larry Bryant and Dexter Parker.
“I exhausted all of my contacts and was able to raise money, plus my group [self-funded] a lot of it.” Wiseman tells EstroHaze.
Why is Mary and Main different to typical medical cannabis dispensaries?
Approximately three years after applying for licensing, cannabis entrepreneur Hope Wiseman obtained a medical cannabis dispensary license and opened the state-regulated store. Based in Prince George’s County where she grew up, the multi-million dollar dispensary is housed inside an old furniture shop.
Not only will patients be presented with a plethora of buds and pot-infused products, including cannabis capsules and oils, but also, they will gain the opportunity to attend educational classes. Designed to encourage millennials to join the medical cannabis industry, the 5,000-square-foot facility will serve as a center for cannabis networking and education.
Only the most knowledgeable employees will be working inside Mary and Main, where patients will be informed about the endocannabinoid system and how it is affected by the green plant. Premium products will be reasonably priced and in the event area, visitors can participate in activities, such as Cannabis 101.
Expect the doors of Mary and Main to open at the end of February. You can find it at Hampton Mall off Central Avenue in Capital Heights.
