R.I. governor calls for more medical cannabis dispensaries
Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo submitted a budget amendment June 9 calling for “no less than six licensed compassion centers,” the Providence Journal reports. The amendment also plans to generate $1.5 million in general revenue.
The state’s existing three medical cannabis centers would be allowed to open a second, retail-only location. The additional dispensaries are planned to be in “underserved areas” of the state, according to Budget Officer Thomas Mullaney.
The amendment also calls for an increase in compassion center application fees from $250 to $5,000 and annual licensing fees from $5,000 to $25,000.
