Nevada to allow early sale of social cannabis
Licensed medical cannabis dispensaries in Nevada will allowed to sell cannabis to adults for social use as early as July 1, 2017, as long as they are in good standing with the state.
Earlier this month, The Nevada Tax Commission voted 6-1 to approve temporary licenses for qualifying dispensaries so sales can commence before the January 1, 2018 deadline for the commission to draft the rules. The temporary licenses will expire after the first of the year and will allow Nevada’s Department of Taxation to test regulations before the program is in full effect in 2018.
Most Nevada counties have yet to approve their own regulations for social use. When these regulations do go into effect, persons over the age of 21 will be allowed to purchase up to an ounce of cannabis and an eighth of an ounce of concentrate. The state law also allows up to six cannabis plants to be grown at home for personal use.
