Mexico legalizes medical cannabis
Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto legalized medical cannabis today with overwhelming support from Mexico’s Lower House.
Peña Nieto was a vehement opponent to cannabis legalization but called for a re-examination of global drug policy earlier this year.
The Ministry of Health will draft and implement the regulations of “public policies regulating the medicinal use of pharmacological derivatives of cannabis sativa, indica and Americana or marijuana, including tetrahydrocannabinol, its isomers and stereochemical variants, as well as how to regulate the research and national production of them.”
The use of cannabis, THC and CBD is now decriminalized. The production and distribution of cannabis for medicinal and therapeutic uses is legal.
